SPaG.com offers grammar and punctuation tests for children to complete online.
Teachers can view instant gap analysis of the results and quickly identify gaps in the children’s knowledge.
How many tests are available for each year group?
For each group, there are between 11 and 14 tests covering specific objectives.
In addition, there are 6 mixed grammar tests per year group except for Year 2 (8 tests) and Year 6 (16 tests).
What are the tests like?
The tests are similar in style to the KS1 and KS2 SATs tests.
There are tests covering the curriculum from Year 1 to Year 6.
For each year group, there are tests which cover specific grammar areas (approx. 10 questions) and longer tests that cover all the objectives for that year group (20, 25 or 50 questions).
Which tests are included in each licence?
The KS1&2 licence gives access to all available tests (Year 1 to Year 6 curriculum).
The KS1 licence gives you access to the Year 1 and Year 2 tests KS1 practice SATs tests.
The KS2 licence gives you access to the Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 tests including the KS2 practice SATs tests.
The Year 6 licence gives you access to the tests covering the Year 6 curriculum and the KS2 practice SATs tests.
Do I need to download an app?
No, you can access SPaG.com using a web browser e.g. Firefox, Chrome, Explorer.
Does SPaG.com work on iPads or tablets?
SPaG.com has not been designed specifically for use on an iPad; we recommend you use a PC, Mac or laptop whenever possible.
Does SPaG.com work on phones?
No, it is not possible to access SPaG.com on a phone.
Are you GDPR-compliant?
I’m pleased to say that our Privacy Policy and User Agreement have been updated and ensure we meet the standards for data privacy introduced by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Go to SPaG.com and click on the ‘See Plans and Pricing’ button. Use the slider to select the correct package size and choose the package you require (KS1, KS2, KS1 & KS2 or Year 6 tests only) by clicking the 'Next' button.
Complete the form and your account will immediately be created.
Which licence should I purchase?
The type of licence needed will depend on who will be using SPaG.com.
For a Year 4, 5 or 6 class, we recommend the KS2 licence.
For Year 3 class, we would recommend the KS1&2 licence so that you can revise Year 2 work.
For Year 1 or 2, you will require the KS1 licence.
We have different year group sizes. How do I calculate the cost of a licence?
You can work out the cost of your licence by setting the slider to the average number of children in a year group.
How quickly will my SPaG.com account be set up?
If you register online, your account will be set up immediately - the login details will be provided on-screen at the end of the registration process.
If you request help to set up your account, we will aim to set up your account within 24 hours (excluding weekends and bank holidays).
You will be given a username and password to log in to the admin account.
Add the children’s names and set them a test.
Each child will be assigned an individual username and password which they use to log in and complete the test.
How do I set up my account?
Once you have ordered your licence, you will be emailed your login details. Click on the ‘Log In’ button (top right corner of page). Enter your username and password and follow the online prompts to set up your account.
How do I add children?
Select the 'My Children' tab. Click on the 'Add new children' button and select 'Create a new class' from the drop-down menu. Type or paste a list of your children into the box and click on the 'Add these children' button.
How do my children log in?
Once you have added children to your class, the software will assign each child a username and password. You can view these on the ‘My Children’ page. Your children can then log in, using these details.
Can I print off my children’s login details?
Yes, you can download a printable PDF of all your children’s login details. Click on the ‘Print children’s login details’ on the ‘My Children’ page and follow the online prompts.
No, you can't change the username yourself. If you need to change your username, please contact support@spag.com and our customer support team will be able to help you.
How do I change my password?
Log in to your account and hover over the school name (top right).
Click on 'My Account' and complete the new password form.
I’ve forgotten my username/password. What do I do?
Click on the ‘Log In’ button and then click on the ‘Forgot password’ link. Enter the email address you registered with. You will now be resent your welcome email containing your details.
Can I choose the usernames and passwords for the children?
No, the children’s usernames and passwords are assigned by the SPaG.com software and cannot be changed.
I already have a licence to use SPaG.com. Can I upgrade to allow more children to use SPaG.com?
Yes, log in and click the Upgrade button (top right of page). You can add extra child accounts, access to additional tests or both.
Your new licence will be valid for 12 months from the date you upgrade.

I’ve accidentally deleted some children. Can I retrieve the data?
No, once children have been deleted, you cannot retrieve the data.
How do I delete children from my account?
Firstly, click on the 'My Children' tab and use the drop down filter to select the class of children you need to delete.
Next, click and tick next to each child that needs to be deleted.
Finally, click the 'Delete' button and all the children that have been selected will be deleted.
Can I delete last year’s cohort and add the new cohort?
Yes, you can delete children from your account and replace them with new children at any time.
How do I add new children to my class?
Select the 'My Children' tab. Click on the 'Add new children' button and select your class from the drop-down menu. Type or paste the names of the children into the box and click on 'Add these children'.
Can I move a child from one class to another?
Yes, you can move one or more child. To do this, go to the 'My Children' tab and select the child's name. Once all children have been selected, click on the 'Assign to Class' drop-down menu and choose the new class. You can also create a class if it doesn't yet exist.
Select the ‘Set a Test’ tab and select the test that you want to set. Click on the 'Next" button (bottom of page), then tick which children you want to take the test.
Can I view a test before I set it?
Yes, you can view a test by clicking on the test name, in the 'Choose a test' table.
Can I choose who sits a test?
Yes, once you have chosen your test, you will be given the option to select which children will take the test.
How do I set a test for only one class or year group?
When setting a test, use the drop-down filters located at the top of the table of children's names to filter by class.
You will then be able to quickly select only the children in a specific class (or classes).
Can I set a test more than once?
Yes, you can set a test as many times as you like.
Can I set Year 5 tests for Year 6 children?
You can set any test in your package for any child.
If you have purchased a KS2 or a KS1 & KS2 licence, you will be able to set a Year 5 test for Year 6 children.
How do I view the gap analysis reports for my class?
Click on the 'My Reports' tab and click on the 'View Report' button next to the test you want to view.
By using the drop-down menus at the top of the table, you can filter the table to show only the tests your class have completed.
Why isn't a child's test result showing up in the reports section?
The most likely reason for a child's test not showing up in the reports section, is because the child hasn't completed the test yet. The child may have paused the test instead of clicking the 'Finish' button.
If they have completed the test but it still isn't showing up, please contact customer support at support@spag.com.
How do I use SPaG.com to identify gaps in my children's knowledge?
When your children have finished a test, click on the 'My Reports' tab, then click on the 'View Report' button next to the test. You will be now be able to view a graph of your children's results and quickly identify gaps in their knowledge.
How do I use SPaG.com to help me identify individual targets for a child?
When a child has finished a test, click on the 'My Reports' tab and click on the 'View Report' button next to the test. Choose the individual child by using the 'All children' drop-down filter at the top of the page. You will now be able to see a detailed breakdown of the areas this child struggled with and the questions they got wrong. This information will help identify gaps in the child's knowledge, which can then be used to identify individual targets for the child.
How long do you store test data?
Test data is kept until the end of the following academic year unless the child is deleted from the account or you cancel your account.
If a child is deleted from the account, all test data is deleted immediately.
Data in expired accounts may be deleted at any time.

Each child should login using their unique username and password. Then, they must click on the ‘Begin test’ link.
Once they have answered the questions, they click on the ‘Finish’ button and confirm that they have completed the test. They will see their score immediately.
Do the children have to complete the test in one sitting?
No. They can pause the test by clicking on the ‘Pause’ button. Next time they log in, they will be able to resume the test.
What happens if a child pauses a test?
The test will stop and it will stay unfinished, in the ‘Live Tests’ table.
They will be able to finish the test another time.
How can a child see which questions they answered correctly in a test?
When a child has finished a test, they can go to the ‘Finished Tests’ table.
If they click on ‘View Results’, they will be taken to the test - correct answers will be green, incorrect answers will be orange.
Can a child see the correct answers, to any questions that they got wrong?
Yes, when a child has finished a test, they can go to the ‘Finished Tests’ table.
If they click on ‘View Results’, they will be taken to their test.
They can view the correct answer to a question, by clicking on the grey 'Show Answer' button (left hand side of page).
